  • The “137 “ designation signifies the surface area of the opening.  Measuring and naming throttle bodies by blade width does not accurately take into account flow potential.  VMP has chosen to designate their line of monoblade throttle bodies by surface area.

In early 2019 VMP introduced a twin-blade throttle body design with native 15-17 style electronics.  To meet the demands of racers, we are extending 15+ line of throttle bodies to include two monoblade offerings.  The first mono offering, the VMP 137, is designed to be extremely user friendly in terms of tune-abilty and drive-ability.  Monoblades often get a bad name, this happens when the throttle is too large for the application. The VMP 137 is the smaller of our two offerings, and is designed to be right at home on the street or track.  May be used on completely stock, or modified engines.

In 2015 Ford switched over to a different style of throttle body electronics. VMP’s line of throttle bodies are built with the same electronics found on 15-17 Ford Mustangs and F150s (designated by an F on the motor cover).  Our throttle bodies include electronics, are tested, and set; all you have to do is bolt them onto the vehicle and load the proper tune. When a customer is left to install their own electronics on a throttle body the calibration process can be lengthy and difficult.       

Tuning recommendations:

  • Load proper effective area and open loop FFTA tables for your application

  • Set max throttle angle limit to 85 degrees (stock value)

  • Load factory 15-17 gear ratio and TPC parameters

  • VMP offers custom tunes for all of our products

It is very common for 15-17 cars to exhibit failsafe issues when trying to use a Ford Racing Cobrajet (M-9926-SCJ) monoblade throttle body on a naturally aspirated or even a supercharged engine.  This occurs for two reasons, the electronics are not strong enough, and the computer is more sensitive to incorrect TPS correlations with throttle angle. VMP chose to build our monoblade throttle bodies for 15-17 Mustangs with the factory native throttle body electronics, not outdated GT500 style electronics.  The native electronics have an improved gear ratio, greater motor torque, and more precise TPS readings. However, problems can still occur if you do not have the proper tuning, VMP offers custom tunes for Mustangs and Ford vehicles.

Signs of mis-matched throttle body electronics or improper tuning:

  • P2112 throttle actuator control system stuck closed

  • “Wrench light” or “failsafe mode” computer detects a tuning or mechanical issue with the drive by wire system

  • Also, P2104, P2111, P2110, P060B
